    Sierra Vista Brewers

All, A friend of mine is expanding his existing business to home brew supplies. Basically, he's a new brewer who's suffered the frustration we all have felt of not having a brew shop within 2 hours. He is in the process of putting together his first order, so if any of you have anything...

    Underpowered Electric Stove

Bah, big propane burner does not mean you have to brew outside. Just use some common sense.........the danger is not CO, but lack of oxygen in a well insulated and airtight room. Do it near an open window and have a CO/smoke detector and you'll be just fine. I don't brew outside because it's...

do beers still age while kegged under co2 cold?

Last summer my old man found a mixed case of bottles from various recipes in his basement. IPA's, some pilsners, mostly light ales though. Totally forgotten. Being incapable of having beer on hand, he drank 'em. Told me they were all the best beers he'd ever had in his life. My old...

    Wheat Beer taste question

Traditional German Hefe has no additives..........the fruity flavors are 100% derived from the yeast esters.......bannana and cloves. Belgian styles, and some of the American wheat beers add lemon or orange peel and/or coriander.

    Size for converted cooler MLT...

Get the 7 Gal round rubbermaid. Splits the difference perfectly. I've done up to an 18lb grain bill. Minimizes the headspace, so it'll hold mash temps longer and more stable. You can order it from Walmart.com with free delivery to your local store for like 40 bucks. Don't get the 5 Gal...

    Just don't get it

The main reason for an IIPA is as a treatment for thrush, gum disease, halotosis, plaque build up, and other oral infections, infestations, and disease. Similar to the way nail polish remover works.......an IIPA simplay dissolves and strips away the bad decaying and rotting cells in the mouth.

That Unique Flavor That is "Lager"

Yep.....spot on. Pick your favorite lager recipe and yeast..........and ferment it at 65 degrees. You'll get a whole different beer. The cooler your temps, the less pronounced the esters IMHO. Goes for both Ales and Lagers. A hefe fermented at 58 degrees has an entirely different...

    Obituary

Use a balloon to bulk age. No pesky airlock to forget about refilling, no blow back tube to suck in sanitizer, the balloon keeps out contaminants....and it makes a nice indicator of what's going on with your brew. If the balloon is standing up or swelling, your brew is producing...

    Resting a Lager

diacetyl isn't the only reason.........bringing it up to room temp for 24 hours lets the yeast clean up. Also, by removing it from your temp controlled environment the day before to your racking location..........it lets everything settle out nicely.....you can rack it without moving it, then...

    I know this sounds wrong

smoke some wet oak wood chips over mesquite charcoal for an hour or so, and dump 'em in the secondary of whatever IPA recipe you like best. Call it Bacon beer, and everybody will like it. Much better than making something gross that will leave you with 5 gallons of plant fertilizer.
