    Chilling question

Thanks for all of the info. So clearly I need to either except the water waste and length of time or seriously look into going more industrial with my cooling system. I was always under the impression that brine systems were just as nasty as glycol? Guess it's time to start researching small...

    Chilling question

One more question, you said one pass, so I assume you have the coolant full bore and the kettle flow restricted?

    Chilling question

Yes to the chiller hooked up the right way. Perhaps that's the problem, the pump. I've been using a pond pump, type you would use for an outdoor fountain. I currently do run the wort back into the boil kettle, recirculating till it hits the proper temp. I will dry a run with just water, remove...

    Chilling question

Ice in the cooler already. Added a second bucket with coiled up tubing in it with ice to try and act as a secondary chiller for the return water. Other thoughts?

    Chilling question

I was hoping for some insight as to what im doing wrong. Have a brutus inspired keggle set up. Blickmann Therminator mounted under the boil kettel burner probably 16 inches of clearance, maybe a little more. Being in a water sensitive area I use a pump recycle cooling water through a ice chest/...

    quick disconnect experiance

Bought a bunch from McMaster, and even those tend to break down pretty quick. My other complaint, is even with some lube on the fittings they don't always "quick" disconnect. Any complaints about the cam locks?

    quick disconnect experiance

I currently use the poly quick disconnects, but go through a ton of the o rings so I am thinking of switching to ss. Anyone have an opinion on the cam lock vs ball lock (think thats what they call them) style? Temp issues as far as handling? Any opinions or experience would be appreciated.

misc items ive great for person starting out

As I have upgrade my system I have some different items I have outgrown. These would be great for someone starting out or in an apartment. 30qt polarware kettle, $50 5 gallon cooler with mash tun conversion kit. Add another cooler and you can fly sparge, kit will work for a bigger cooler if...

    any regrets going electric?

I like to step mash, so I was already thinking I would go the rimms route. Cidah, you mention that you upped it to two 5500 for doing 10+ gallon batches, and maybe others can chime in. From looking at kal's sight, I was under the impression that 10 gallon batch's (which for me is really 11...

    any regrets going electric?

Opinions on herm vs rim? For those times I want a step mash, my current set up is rim and I don't have any scorching problems with a direct fire, any problems with the heating element contacting the grain if I stick one in the mash tun? Ok, I admit in being a bit lazy asking this question and...

    any regrets going electric?

After looking around a bunch on the threads, the one question I didn't see asked does anyone regret, or has anyone switched back to direct fire after going electric? I am currently running a single tier 3 keggle set up, and was thinking of adding a control panel. After a little more looking, and...

    Spontaneous fremantation

I boiled just like any other wort, because at first I was going to ferment with a normal yeast then add the lacto, but started reading all the suggestions to lacto first to get a better sour. It just threw me to see a full krausen, since I didn't expect that from the lacto. It's been a couple...

    Spontaneous fremantation

So I was going to make a Berliner weisse, which turned into I'm going to make a super funky sour wheat. My plan was, and what I have done so far, chill wort to 75-80, and lactobisllious, hold at 80 for two days then add Brett. Let the Brett work for a few weeks then add the wlp Belgian sour mix...

Either a porter or a dry stout, have a yeast cake of wlp 007 that I'm gonna pull my bitter off of, haven't decided what which I'll do yet.
