    American IPA Blood Moon IPA

See my reply above yours. I used 6lbs. Golden DME and 2lbs Dark DME. Finished at 1.012 and just kegged it. First samples were delicious, I can only hope that it will get better after a week or so to keg condition.

    Blichmann Boilermaker G2 question

After chilling, I want to get it into the ferm vessel as fast as possible, no? If I leave it for 30min open to air, isn't that an opportunity to introduce an infection? Also, if after I chill, I leave it for 30 min in ambient outside air temp of 40 degrees, I think it would drop the temp below...

    Blichmann Boilermaker G2 question

Having the same problem. Its a shame I drop that kind of $$$ on a fancy kettle only to find out I need to spend more for it to work correctly. I tried whirlpooling, but unless you start whirlpooling from the very start of the first hop addition, it will still clog. Hopblocker seems to be the...

    American IPA Blood Moon IPA

Brewed this yesterday. I tweaked the fermentables a little bit because I didn't read the OP's recipe right, and got a bunch of DME instead of LME, I also used 2lbs. of regular dark extract instead of 100% golden. Also subbed the German carafoam because my BAM was out of Belgian carapils...

    Spontaneous Fermentation?

Well I'm not quite sure how I got contaminated. Everything was properly sanitized and since I use glass (for the specific reason that plastic is easier to get contamintations with ie: scratches, valves, lids) I'm really not sure where the contamination would have come from. Oh well, we'll see...

    Spontaneous Fermentation?

Well I sanitized my carboy with onestep and gave it an extra little scrub before sanitation. Let it sit for about 30 minutes with sanitation solution. Emptied, no rinse, and in went the chilled wort and topped with a sanitized airlock and bung. 2 days later krausen with no yeast?! I'm kinda...

    Spontaneous Fermentation?

So I made a 60 minute clone on friday. Didnt prepare a starter ahead of time, So I thought, I'll just stick it in the closet until the starter is ready and then pitch. Well, I opened the closet today and low and behold, there is a layer of krausen and airlock activity. I brewed outside, does...

    Can I re-boil wort?

Ok, so I have an issue... I brewed a 60 minute clone on friday, but didnt make a starter, so I thought: "No big deal, just stick it in the closet over the weekend while my starter gets going, then pitch on monday morning." Right? Wrong. I opened up the closet to find that my fermentation has...

    Bad Batch

Hmmm... I'm guessing maybe our sanitation might be the problem. Used Carboys with airlocks that were good. Another thing that I've been puzzled by is this- When we removed the airlock bung, there was a small ring of white residue right where the bottom of the bung stops on the glass neck. I...

    Bad Batch

Ok, Looking for some troubleshooting here. I'm not a new brewer, but this is the first batch I've ever had go bad. I did a smoked oatmeal stout. Primary for 3 weeks, secondary for a month and a half. Went to bottle it and it had a very strong vinegar/balsamic vinegar smell. Any Ideas...

    Fermentation issues

I use Beersmith. I have been plugging in the numbers and thats how I got what I got. I think checking it against a hydrometer is a good idea to see how accurate it is.
