Looking for micro equipment to experiment with!

I found a couple of cheaper sources that were about $3 for a 1 gallon canning jar with lids. Plus shipping makes it around $5 a piece. Lol getting sir locks will be more expensive.

Looking for micro equipment to experiment with!

Thank you - I honestly hadn't considered finding a wide mouthed glass jar...then found this 64 oz jar for $5.25...that's plenty of batches :)...

    Dogfish head Namaste clone

Thank you...can you advise how to read that recipe? How long should I boil the grain? Is it then add the hops with a 60, 30 min boil and then at the end of the boil? Thank you

Looking for micro equipment to experiment with!

Hi Guys, I would like to be able to play around with some brew recipes a bit. But, making an entire 5 gallon batch for each variation will be time consuming and will take forever to reach a good brew. I was thinking about setting up the main boil and then separating that into 5 batches...

Dogfishhead Namaste or Offcolor breweries Troublesome?

Hi All, I recently drank 2 wheat beers which both had some citrus in them (orange/lemon) and corriander, with a wonderful fruity nose. Each had enough hop to taste without being overpowering and were very easy to drink...perfect for a summer beer. Does anyone have any clone recipes for...

Muntons DME vs Briess for bottling

I am making a clone of Fullers ESB and the final step before bottling is to boil 1.25 cups of Muntons extra light DME in 2 cups of water. I used Muntons Plain Extra Light for the main recipe (the brew store did not have any Muntons Light DME), so I know this beer will be lighter in color than...

    Priming ingredients

In the end I dutifully weighed out my 3.2g of priming sugar per this web site: KotMF: Priming Sugar Calculator Then took a look at an IPA recipe which called for 3/4cup of primer for 5gals. Well my 5oz was less than that, so I added it all. The good thing about this, my second batch is that...

    Priming ingredients

I am getting round to bottling a home brew version of Shepherds Neame - Spitfire. The pre-bottling additions calls for: 1 cup, wheat DME 1/4 cup glucose syrup Wheat DME (4 oz) was also an ingredient of the main brew. Although my local home brew store said it wasn't needed and wouldn't...

    Second ferm/racking

I've yet to finish this batch yet...but I left it in the primary for 10-14 days (I forget which), the bubbles were coming at about 2/minute. Siphoned everything into a glass carboy (not very solid cake), with air lock, added my extra hop pellets and left it for about 2.5 weeks (plenty of...

    Interesting variations pre-bottling?

All I can tell you is my Dad made wine in demi-johns which were about a gallon form what I could make out. I have heard of "pins" and "demi pins" where beer is concerned. Well, I'll take what I have and make some additions directly to the bottles as I don't have that much to play with.

    Interesting variations pre-bottling?

As I spoke about in a previous thread I have 1 gallon, primed in a demi-john. Being a chemist and an experimental type...any thoughts of anything I could do to try and add some variations to this beer pre-bottling? Add fruit, herbs, anything like that? The beer is darker, like DeGroen's...

    Storage after adding priming sugar

You'd think I'd know that reaction being a chemist!

    Storage after adding priming sugar

Cheers, As Luck would have it, Aldrich sells 250 g of Dextrose for about $18 (>99.5 pure). Mind you they do charge a bit for their shipping.
