well, didn't even make it a week. the infection is in the bottles as well. i'm going to crack one this afternoon to see what it's like, but pretty sure it's going to be a wash.
well, i bottled it... unfortunately kegging is not an option. i underprimed just to help ensure i won't end up with bombs, and then put them in a contractor grade garbage bag, just to ensure i don't have to wash my entire closet out. I'll update in a week when i pop the first sample bottle.
So i opened up my ryePA today to take my FG and sample before bottling, and was greeted with this:
I'm pretty damn sure it's an infection, judging from other pics I've come across.
question is, what is it?
I'm almost positive it was caused by the cheesecloth i put the hops in...
i wouldn't necessarily mind if it dried right out, but if i mashed at a higher temperature could i keep it from drying out as much by making the wort less fermentable?
i was planning on mashing at 150* (as per the recipe)...
So I'm going to be brewing a blueberry blonde again this week, but i wanted to make some changes to the recipe.
first change is making it a blackberry blonde, because that's what it was supposed to be the first time around, but i just couldn't find them.
the next change i'm going to make is...
on my last batch (brooklyn pennant clone) i realized i forgot to ad maltodextrin to it after it had already been put in fermenter.
so i boiled 1 cup on water and added the MD to it. let it cool down to ~80 and poured it in. i was also told you could add it to your bottling bucket after...
thanks for the tips... something just didn't seem right about not adding sugar of some kind to it, but i'm still pretty green so i wasn't sure.
I'm going to rework the recipe, and I'll post back up.
So I spent a good amount of time looking for a Tripel Karmaliet clone recipe that wasn't all grain (i'm not setup for it yet... going to do this as my first partial mash), and I finally tracked one down. recipe is as follows:
Batch size: 5 gallons
Boil size: 3 gallons for 60 min.
OG: 1.083...
hey everyone.
so i just finished my first solo brew on wednesday night, using this recipe:
http://www.tastybrew.com/newrcp/detail/301
my OG was 1.050 (1.048 actually, but i pitched really close to 80, so i corrected for temperature) so i was really happy to be that close for my first...
