Virginia Assorted Brewing Stuff (Ashburn, VA)

I'm officially retiring from my short homebrew career. Up for sale is a chunk of the equipment I've gathered in the past. The list of items are: (4) Ball lock Corny kegs - Some have recently been rebuilt and all hold pressure; they are currently soaking in PBW and depending on when you visit...

The cure for your short hose troubles

I have two of the swizzles as a second attempt. They did not work so well the first time because my beer was over carbonated. Now that I let this one slowly carbonate, they work like a charm! Do you guys reuse these from batch to batch?

Thoughts on this un-spiced pumpkin ale?

I completely went a different route and the recipe I brewed is totally different. More like a northern brown with pumpkin.

    Spent Grains

Recent studies show that dogs are very susceptible to grain intolerance. They'll never tell you because they love the taste but if fed a high grain diet some dogs can develop things like skin allergies. If you loom at dog food trends they are going more protein focused which is proper for...

Golden Honey Ale recipe about to go on, how's it looking?

I didn't think dryhopping added any bitterness. Only aroma and maybe flavor.

    Recommend me a Kegerator Regulator

I want to be able to serve two different beers at different pressures. What can you recommend? The least expensive the better! I've noticed a lot of different online stores carry different models at differing prices. Would I be getting a sub-par regulator if I get one from Beverage Factory...

Golden Honey Ale recipe about to go on, how's it looking?

4 lbs of malt fermentables and 2 of a simple sugar? That's going to be a very thin (bodiless) beer! Up the malts to 6+ lbs and then add a 1lb of sugar. That'll get your gravity up.

Irish Red from Brewing Classic Styles that didnt turn red...

This from the book Brewing Classic Styles? I don't have mine handy in front of me but if I remember, it's estimated SRM color is over 13. From what've researched 13 SRM is the level you want to aim for when a true red color is desired. Unless you want fire engine red and if that's the case...

I need a beer that can stay in carboy for a long period

Keg it. If the keg holds pressure (and it should), it should keep nicely since all O2 will have been purged.

Steeping Techniques (+ partial mash questions)

I've been brewing for a few years now but until recently I thought I knew all there was about steeping. When I first started brewing, I had a 4 gal pot and I'd steep in 3 gals of water, add extract, boil, add hops, cool, top off, pitch, and close up the bucket. I now have a 10 gal...

    Temperature control

I use a pond pump to power my IC. It's 550 gph. I had to spend a little time at home depot getting the right fittings to convert the 1/2 in out of the pump to the 3/8 in of the IC input. Not a big deal tho. You'll want to start chilling with just cold tap water. Swap it out frequently so that...
