Preparing for an American Brown Ale

Hey all... I'm looking to make an American Brown as my next beer. For anyone living in St. Louis, I'm trying to get something close to The Civil Life's American Brown. I've never built a recipe before, so I borrowed most of Northern Brewers Caribou Slobber recipe, but have substituted the...

    Preparing to dry hop

LOL - you mean they don't make FERMENTATION MARBLES! I looked at EVERY story..haha..kidding. Yeah, I've got to grab some. Again - thanks EVERYONE for your input; can't wait to bottle this one.

    Preparing to dry hop

Thanks Jonathan - I'll be grabbing some to drop in the bag next time. Tiroux, thanks - I'll see if I can move the hop bag around enough without disrupting the yeast - if not, I'll use my suction thing (for gravity readings) to move it around during readings. Hoping for the best...the beer does...

    Preparing to dry hop

Couldn't come across any marbles but I found cheese cloth and got to work. Sanitized my scissors, pellet pack an cloth. Poured the hops into the cloth, tied a know and jammed it into my Carboy. The pouch is floating on top. I'm guessing it will stay there? Is there anything else I should do to...

    Preparing to dry hop

I'm making a Chinook IPA (Northern Brewer extract kit). I racked to secondary after 8 days (been in secondary for 6 days now) and am getting ready to dry hop for 10 days before bottling. This will be my first time, so I ask: To keep the pellet gunk out of the beer, I would guess I need to use a...

    Is my smack pack smacked?

Thanks. I'm sure I should have looked around first but sometimes I get scared quickly and jump to the quick fix. I appreciate the response.

    Is my smack pack smacked?

Just received my Wyeast smack pack in the mail from NB. I can't tell if it's already been "smacked" in transit. The pouch is definitely a bit inflated, but as a jungle it around it feels like whatever "pack" thing that is in there is still solid. But the last thing I want to do is brew my 4th of...

Am I a beer geek or beer snob?

Haha...that made reading this thread worth it for me.

I need some beer toasts, funny sayings etc for a wedding card.

Not beer specific, but my favorite has always been "Here's to staying positive, and testing negative". Lol

My thief is bad at stealing

Question on fermentation of first brew

Hello my friends. So, after 3 weeks in the primary I bottled. I let it condition for 2 weeks and just had my first brew. The beer is very clean looking - no fogginess or cloudiness. It had a decent head, not too much - but certainly built up some carbonation. It smells great - but the taste...

My thief is bad at stealing

So I've got to ask, is it me? I've got my beer thief, but i can barely get any beer when using it to fill my test tube for gravity readings. I suppose it may just be normal, but with all the emphasis on being sanitary, the fewer times I need to go in and out of the beer the better. Any...
