I did. It turned out really well, but it had a TON of sediment, especially the whole hops. I lost nearly a gallon in the fermenter to it. Next time, I'll use a hop spider and try to do a better job whirlpooling.
It was nice and citrusy; I think the Amarillo helped punch that through. I...
Anyone make progress on converting the all grain recipe to an extract/mini-mash recipe? It should be doable, especially since Northern Brewer now has rye extract.
Thanks: Re the Hersbrucker- the original recipe from NB called for 2.5 oz at 60 mins. I upped it to 3, but could probably drop it.
I'm kind of going for a saison IPA with a lot of citrus hop flavor.
So I'm doing a brew-in-a-bag version of the all grain Saison kit from Northern Brewer (my first all-grain).
The extract kit was my first brew ever, so I thought doing it for my first all-grain, would be...um... symetrical.
Anyhow, I'm going to hop the hell out of this one with Amarillo and...
Just renewed my membership for another year and definitely want to enter! I had to give up home brewing for the last year since we moved to Dubai, but will be moving back soon and am anxious to get back into it!
I just added a few ounces of raw lemon peel to a hefeweizen I'm brewing that's currently in secondary. The instructions from Midwest Supplies had me microwave the peel for 30 seconds to sanitize it. It was definitely steaming hot when it came out (probably the high oil content of the zest)...
Ugh, the kit I created for this brew is $60 from Midwest Supplies.
However, since it normally retails for $8 per 750ML bottle, brewing 5 gallons will save me about $140 vs. buying it retail. :mug:
I love this obsessi... I mean hobby.
Also, think I'm going to go with Wyeast's Belgian...
Just crack the seeds, like very coarse cracked black pepper. I just tossed mine in a ziplock back and smashed them with the back of a spoon. You could also use the bottom of a drinking glass.
A friendly head brewmaster gave me the following as a guide to help me clone my favorite beer from his brewery. I'd like a hand converting the grain bill to a typical 5 gallon extract recipe and the hops from IBU's to ounces, but I thought I'd share the rest of the recipe as well.
This is a...
1) No, you're fine. Just shake most of it off the spoon.
2) Yep. Midwest Supplies sells one for ~$10
3) Yep, it's ugly. Be sure to get to it soon, it will turn into an ungodly sticky mess if you leave it.
4)Maybe not by itself, but you probably aerreated it a good bit pouring it through the...
I need to vent a little anxiety.
So I brewed Midwest Supplies' Lemon Coriander Weiss this afternoon.
I added 1 oz of the Saaz pellets at 60 mins, and the boil basically exploded. I've never seen anything like it.
It was a full 6 gallon boil, and I was stirring the wort vigorously before and...
