I haven't been around thanks to a work training so I missed this, but congratulations!! Let me roll you a custom cigar to say congrats, on the house. Message me. Sipping bourbon and enjoying a home roll I had stashed and grabbed randomly. I need to start stashing my rolls more. 2 yrs+ aged and...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I really did myself no favors trying the yirg after only 12 hours rest. It was good, but only so-so then. After another day past that it turned into something really amazing. I'm getting a strong peach flavor, but more of the center part towards the pit that is a bit more bitter, hints of...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Roasted the yirg from @jammin last night. Between the colder temps last night and fighting my heat gun to keep from tipping beans my total roast time was way longer than I wanted at a mind blowing 18mins. Time to cut down to half lb batches. The cup this am through the pourover is really really...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I haven't taken the plunge into an espresso machine. Yet... Right now it's aeropress, pourover, or cold brew. I was thinking this bean would have a profile more suited for the pourover, but I guess I will see what I can get out of it with the espresso as well.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

This roast described in two words: HOT DAMN! I'm going to over simplify some, but I'm going to liken it to the equivalent of drinking a berry danish. The jar I keep the beans in smells like a pastry shop when I open it to make my coffee. Snapped a shot of the bag this am to share what SM says...

Just wait. But these guys will help you enjoy it that much more. Quality over quantity was something they taught me, yet the quantity still managed to far exceed the need. I think we should explore a cigar and coffee swap when you're ready to dip your toes in some deeper water [emoji3]

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

To add to what jammin said, if your wife likes something bold and rich with low acidity, try a blend of Guatemalan with Tanzanian. Thick, rich, and bold flavors without having to take it into second crack. I don't find many coffees that I like as a single origin because I want a complex cup. I...

Roasted up some Kenyan this morning. Somewhere around 24% development playing with my heat settings (was really hard to hear first crack) and 13.5% weight loss. I only had one pound of this particular lot so these numbers don't give me much as far as dialing in for this bean, but there was far...

I'm no rocket surgeon, but I think the way each unit heats the chamber is going to have an impact on this. Keep in mind this is my speculation and I have zero scientific evidence to back my claims. I do know that a fluid bed roaster has a tendency to roast a coffee with a brighter profile. Even...
