yeah, I'm thinking that is too hot as well. I don't think the bucket was made for that kind of temp but I could be wrong. I'm sure someone on here knows what the ale pail is rated for.

since there is no flavor/aroma hop addition in this recipe can I just use Casacade because that is what I have? Will it make much difference?

Try some amylase enzyme. It is like a buck at the lhbs. I've not used it ye but i have it at th ready for such an occasion. Seems to work but may dry out your beer too much from what i hear.

I love my 10 gal. Aluminium pot. It will allow you to easily do all grain brew in a bag without purchasing extra equipment. Mine was $40 shipped from ebay. (Another $15 for the lid.)

Is oatmeal only for stouts and porters? What would it be like in a lighter ale? Why not?

Yup. And it isnt like regular plastic is rat poison. As long as the beer isnt marinating in it for weeks you shouldnt have any problems.

I just sanitized 50 bottles in 3 minutes with this bad boy. Quick, cheap, and no mess. Highly recommended. I just have to remember to return it to my toddler after i'm done.

Yeah, i've had luck with a citronella filled airlock too.

Is a gallon of green trub left after bottling an ipa excessive? Is a hop sock worth using? Other ways to cut down on trub? Seems like a lot of wasted beer.
