    bad brew nite

the batch is ruined!! You've officially destroyed your beer. Go ahead and wait 3 weeks ignoring any signs of fermentation (because it's not really fermenting...remember, you ruined it). Then continue and bottle as normal and mail them to my address. I'll dispose of the disgusting, vial beer...

    Smack Pack Malfunction

I had a smack pack a few weeks ago that didn't swell...and I still pitched it. And it started fermenting just fine. Just give it time. The pack, I believe, even says "it's not necessary for pack to fully swell."

    White Labs is horrible!!!... maybe.

I just used a White Labs vial last Saturday. It was at least 48+ hours until the blow off tube was going crazy. Patience

    Sanitizer question

It's a cleaner even though it says it's a sanitizer? "One-Step" No-Rinse Sanitizer edit-- although that site actually says "In a closed, dark, and clean container, a solution of One Step will last up to 1 week. In a closed, clean container in a refrigerator, the solution is good for over a...

    Sanitizer question

actually I think the one step is cheaper isn't it? I can get an 8oz package for less than two bucks at my local shop. I haven't had any problems with one step so far. It seems to do a great job, just adding a teaspoon to each gallon of warm water. I just wasn't sure how long a solution lasts...

    Sanitizer question

this is just a one step though....same answer?

    Sanitizer question

I plan on having a long day Saturday brewing two batches and bottling another one. I use a one step sanitizer and I was wondering if I should change out the solution that I mix in a large bucket after every batch I do? I was just planning on bottling first and sanitizing all my bottles and in...

    Yeast in Transit

I've had stuff sent with and without and ice pack...and the yeast has been fine. A similar question...does any keep their ice packs for other uses? I'm wondering if they can be reused as ice packs for injuries or to help cool the wort, etc.

79.99 good price for a brew kettle?

AHS has some decent priced ones, IMO. I just picked their economy 7 gallon for $45 Austin Homebrew Supply

    How long to wait...

yes it's too late to check the OG (original gravity). This is the first test with the hydrometer you do after the boil, cooling of the wort and after adding top off water...all before you add the yeast. Once the yeast starts doing it's thing the density of the beer changes. I usually let my...

    Secondary fermenters

it's actually not referred to as "secondary fermentation". There is no extra fermentation process that continues when you move it. From what I understand it (and I'm still new too), most people here call it a "bright tank" to help clear the beer up. And most of these same people will say you...

Wait, what did I just brew? It was supposed to be a Hefeweizen.

I'm still new to all this (been brewing for a few months only)... but I plugged your numbers into Beer Tools. It looks to be pretty close to a Weissbier. OG I get recommended between 1.044-1.052 as a guideline...the expected with your recipe is on the high side at about 1.053. Final gravity...

How many bottles do you have?

probably 150-200 bottles. I know I have at least enough for three batches at a time to be bottled. I had to turn down left over bottles people were saving for me. I don't see the bottling process as being too hard. It's just the cleaning process that takes a little elbow grease. I'd love to...

How to Brew - By John Palmer - Priming Solutions it's the same as any other bottle isn't it? Just siphon the beer into your bottling bucket on top of the sugar to mix it.
