    Man, I love Apfelwein

Hey everyone - I was fascinated at the popularity of this apfelwein, so I had to give it a try. Pitched my yeast a couple of hours ago, she is going to be a long wait. I have yet to invest in a kegging system, and was wondering what peoples opinion is on the best way to age apfelwein. Should I...

    Degassing Wine?

Is it okay to degas more than once? My wine expert kit has been degassed and is settled, but I have a feeling I should degas again, as I think i added too much oxygen the first time, is this okay to do? It has been a week since I degassed. Thanks.:mug:

    Ready to bottle?

Hello good people, my first batch of beer is coming to the end of its second fermemtation stage. It has been fermenting for a total of 3 weeks and it is at the right SG to bottle. I took a sample with my beer thief and there is still little bits of stuff floating around (yeast?). Is this still...

    Island Mist Question

Hey everyone, so I just racked my Island Mist wine to my secondary (going to wait the 10 days, and then add chemicals/f-pack). Just wondering, in the instructions it says to leave the sediment in the secondary while adding the chemicals and to stir it up - anyone know why they say to do this...

    Noobie Help

Hey everyone - I just made my batch of Island Mist wine. I forgot to put in the 2 lbs of dextrose (for an increase ABV) so I added it after I put my yeast on top and slowly stirred. Now I know I shouldn't have stirred but I panicked, will this ruin the yeast?

    Quickest Wine Kit

Hey all - Now I know the secret ingredient to good wine or beer is time - but there is a festival I am going to in about a months time, and this will be the first time I have made wine. Anyone know the "quickest" wine kit, or are they all relatively the same time? Thanks!:tank:

Is this a normal time frame?

Right right, makes sense. It has been fermenting for 72 hours now. It has been slowly bubbling, and there is about 1/2 inch of foam on the top. Does this sound about right? In photos of fermentation it looks like there is always a couple of inches of the krausen.

Is this a normal time frame?

Great - thanks for the replies! I will wait past the 5 days for sure, I will know its done fermenting when there is no krausen at the top and the yeast is done swirling around, correct?

Is this a normal time frame?

Okay great - thanks for the replies. Also, my primary is a brew bucket without an airlock hole - so I have the lid placed loosely on top - will it harm the brew if i lift the lid to peak in a couple times a day to check on the fermentation?

Is this a normal time frame?

Hey all - I am currently 3 days into my first home brew. I bought a kit from my local brew shop, its a Pilsner. The instructions say to leave it in the Primary fermentor for 5 days, until the initial head has dropped, and then rack to the Secondary for 14 days. Does this 14 days seem...

    Cover Carboy?

So why do we cover the beer? What is it that light will do to the beer?

    Covering from light

Hey everyone, my beer is fermenting away in my 1st fermentor - but it is a clear plastic bucket, should i be covering this from light? Thanks:mug:
