Forgot to add water to my Fast Pitch starter

EPbrew, thanks so much for your input on this. I added 16oz of water and kept the flask on the stir plate for another day or so. I didn't see your post until this morning so I had kept the airlock on until I pitched it last night. I will post back here when the fermentation completes (if it...

Forgot to add water to my Fast Pitch starter

I should have added that, when properly diluted with 16 oz of water, the fast pitch wort solution should be at 1.040 OG. So, assuming that the can of fast pitch is 16 oz, and they want you to add another 16 oz to get an OG of 1.040, then in it's concentrated form (which I added my ale yeast to)...

Forgot to add water to my Fast Pitch starter

Seeking some advice on this topic, I bought a can of Fast Pitch (concentrated canned wort) to use for my starter and being the genius that I am, I forgot to read the fine print that said to add 16 oz of water to the 16 oz of Fast Pitch wort that was already in the flask before pitching yeast...

Why is everyone only into IPA's

I don't know, but they do say IPA's are good 'palate wreckers!'. ;)

    Fiji water brew

Scraggybeard: Wow, good guess! Yep, it's the Frederick-Miller spring right by Lion's Tap. The Oktoberfest I brewed just started fermenting yesterday so I'll have to wait a while to find out how it tastes, but I have brewed several other beers (an IPA, American Wheat and Raspberry Wheat) and...

    Fiji water brew

I just finished brewing an AG beer with water from a natural mineral spring in Eden Prarie, MN. I've never had issues using spring water (either bottled or straight from that spring) but of course your mileage may vary. :mug:

Thermowell with Stopper Fell into Wort

Thanks for responding, Bellybuster! I am tempted to try and fish the thermowell out since it's propped up against the side of the carboy and the stopper is maybe about 6 inches from the opening of the carboy but I'm guessing at this point that would be potentially more harmful than just...

Thermowell with Stopper Fell into Wort

Just finished brewing my fall BIAB 'AG24 Oktoberfest' Lager and unfortunately (being tired as it was after 2 AM here), I accidentally pushed my thermowell with rubber stopper attached right into beer as I was trying to affix the airlock into the rubber stopper. The Thermowell and rubber stopper...

Denny's for bottle aged imperial stout?

I believe he's referring to 'Denny's Favorite 50' yeast (Wyeast 1450): "This terrific all-round yeast can be used for almost any beer style, and is a mainstay of one of our local homebrewers, Mr. Denny Conn. It is unique in that it produces a big mouthfeel and accentuates the malt, caramel, or...

    Light has attacked my beer!

I don't think a few hours of indirect ambient light would cause any noticeable harm. I believe it would take a few days to weeks for it to start to 'skunk' the beer.

    Mystery IPA ??'s

Hard to say exactly which one as a lot of IPA's have that flavor profile but it sounds similar to Bells Two Hearted out of Michigan. That IPA is bursting with flowery hop aroma and that same hop punch carries into the flavor. One of my favorite ales.

WASHINGTON BEER - Need your thoughts

I don't know why but when I think of Washington state and beer those silly Rainier cans with legs always come to mind. ;) Actually, I think of Washington as the nation's hop basket. I think playing to that strength in marketing (as well as being home to really great craft breweries) would be a...

    Raspberry puree

I make a raspberry wheat and I add one 49 oz can of Vintner's Reserve Raspberry Purée to a 5 gallon batch and it is just the right amount for me. It gives a nice tart raspberry flavor without being overpowering or too sweet. I add mine to the secondary and then rack the beer on top and let sit...

Thanks for that very helpful info, Screamin6! I'll definitely check out those links. :)

    The Experiment

I'm just going to throw this out there but have you tried brewing with store bought spring water? I know you're throwing your water profile 'to the wind' when using spring/mineral water, but since you've seemingly tried everything else why not try that as well just to rule it out? I brew with...
