Ball lock or Pin lock which is better?

For me ball locks work out better because the difference in diameter ends up being enough for me to fit an additional keg in my keezer. I have put the gas line on the fluid out post before, but it becomes obvious right away when you here fluid gurgling, and I just swap it back around (the post...

To drink while brewing or not to drink.. That is the question

The only time I ever seem to have available to brew is Friday nights, after the baby is asleep around 8. So, Friday nights, after a long work week, it seems only fitting to have a beer or 7. I never get blitzed, but it gives me something to do while staring at wort boil. Besides, have to make...

    Mash Tun Size?

I'll second the 10 gallon. You could always split your grain bill in half and mash/sparge twice if you want a beer over 1.060, but just doing one mash in a 10 gallon would be a lot easier. I use my 10 gallon for mostly 11 gallon batches, unless I make a IIPA or some other high gravity beer I...

Best way to bottle & transport a keg

I've transported fully carbed and cold kegs form my house to my parents house about 1 1/2 hours away for 4th of July festivities with no problems. The kegs barely warmed up. There they sat in my dads fridge for a few days before we put them each in buckets and ice for easy access and...

    First Brew Pot Question

+1 To the paint strainer. I've also tried the bazooka screen and it clogs up rather quickly. I do 11 gallon batches in a 15 gallon kettle with a valve, but i never use the valve. I just use paint strainer bags in buckets and scoop the first 5.5 gallons out into the first bucket with a...

    New Belgium Rampant

    Oxi Clean

I've used regular oxi clean when I couldn't find the oxi free stuff, I didn't have any problems with weird smells in the final beer. I rinse everything to the point the slippery feel is gone, usually 3 or 4 times in as hot of water as I can tolerate. Hope this helps.

Washing yeast from dry hopped primary

I always dry hop in secondary. That being said, I always seem to end up with a decent amount of hop pellet residue in the primary form the boil anyway even after filtering. No where near the amount of a dry hop, but there is some never the less. I've found that when following the procedure in...

    better bottles

I use oxi clean. The cheap knock off from the dollar store. I just put a small scoop in the carboy, and fill it to the top with hot water and let it sit in the laundry tub overnight. It hasn't failed me yet. A good shaking the next day and usually good to go.
