    Upgraded my system

Ordered two weldless bulkheads and some hose, utilized an old apple crate, and now I'm sparging! I was using a Pyrex pitcher to sparge with, but that got old quick, plus I was not maintaing my sparge water temps. I used a greenlee knockout punch tool from Lowe's to cut the hole and I would...

    Bottling with Brett

Thanks for the advice everyone, I will update with pictures in the near future when I split the batch and add the Brett. How long are you storing the bottles before consumption oldstock? Should I keep them at room temperature, 67-72 degrees or down in the cool basement at temps of 55 or less?

    Bottling with Brett

I have brewed a saison fermented with WLP565 and want to split the batch in half and add Brett. But its already 2 weeks into the secondary. Can I add it when bottling, use champaign bottles, wire it down and age it? If so what gravity should I bottle at and how long do I let it sit?

    Thermometer Fluctuations

The thermometer is about 5" from the bottom. I don't think it could be hot spots because every ten minutes I would give it a good stir. I personally think the thermometer was malfunctioning, it did it twice, just shot up to the 180s sat there for a little then went back to 153. Next brew day I...

    Thermometer Fluctuations

Temperature Gauge Fluctuations I was brewing the other day and my dial thermometer was giving out some crazy readings. I have a Bayou Classic 8 gallon brew kettle that I use as a mash tun, it has the thermometer built in. During my mash at 153, the dial would rise to 180 and then a few minutes...

How to get rid of all the sediment on the bottom of the bottle? Does racking help?

Yes, racking into a secondary would help. But also try Irish moss in the last 15 min of your boil and moving your fermenter to wherever you rack your beer a few hours before before you transfer to allow for settling. The longer the better. My fermentation schedule is One week primary, Two weeks...

    Bayou Classic Brew Kettle

Finally got to use my Bayou Classic 8 gallon brewing kettle for my first all grain batch ever. Brewed an IPA and it went really well, so I thought I would share some pics of the brew night.

How an Irish red turned into a spiced habanero ale, will it be drinkable?

For Christmas I gave my brother an Irish red kit (partial mash) that I put together to brew with him in the future. We finally got around to brewing yesterday but had a little misfortune mid way through our mash. we were using a candy thermometer, the glass type, with it tied to my handle of the...

Should I use Bodywash in my Brew?

Don't tell her to pull the airlock, trust me on this one. Had a porter sitting in the tub which had just been brewed the day before. My girlfriend gets up early to go to work and sees that beer is flowing into the airlock. She tells me (who is still in bed) to which I reply "just pull the...

First time using a blowoff tube.

I can measure the inside neck of a carboy. I was just curious as to if you bought a particular style and/or size. Ive had a few bucket fermentation's where I had to pull the airlock and let it flow out. I've since went to a 6.5 carboy for primarys with an air lock, but nothing has reached top, yet..

    Show us your Beer Cellar!

Here's my small cellar full of home brew, it's built into the foundation of my house in the stairwell going down to the basement. I framed the door jam and foamed it, now I just need to paint it, add a foam ceiling and a door.
