Just thought I'd share this:

I can't take credit for the idea but I haven't seen these around anywhere and had to have one once I used it. Basically - water goes in where the colder QD is. It floods the outer tube and spills over the edge. You put your wort sample in the middle tube and the sample is relatively quickly cooled. I have a bar with a washer welded on the end and some holes in the washer to help distribute the cooled sample (being careful not to pull the washer out of the sample because you don't want to aerate it).

Very nice, and well implemented. If I do this, I think I may use a copper inner sleeve for better heat transfer (and since I have a bunch of extra copper pipe around!).
