i am fermenting my first batch of beer and i realized the recipie for the wheat beer i was making said add one once of the hops for 60 minutes and then the other once at the last 5 minutes of the boil. well i added the 2 onces for 60 minutes. how much will this effect the beer?

All the hops at 60 will increase your bitterness. None of them at 5 will mean less hop aroma. Depending on the variety and AA%s, it may not turn out exactly the way you were hoping, but it won't be bad either.

thats what i was thinking would it turn out like a wheat ipa haha

You will have a bit more bitterness than you planned. If you like IPA's then this won't be so bad.
The advice above about dryhopping is a good one. Since it's too late for a flavor addition, you can get the effect of an aroma addition by dryhopping. Do a search on this technique. This will help balance your beer.

in not a big fan of IPAs but i will drink it. for the dry hopping is there a particular kind of hop that would be good. i have to go to the home brew place tomorrow for a hydrometer because mt nephew thought it was a toy. the place is an hour away so i really only want to go once. ohh and its on its second week in the bucket tomorrow. so im assuming its done fermenting.

the 60 minute and the 5 minute were both the same hops. its Gr.Hallertau alpha 4.3%. it was supposed to be 1 oz for 60 and 1 oz for 5 but it came in the same bag and i got messed up with doing 20 different things at the same time

ok ill pick some up and i just put it in a mess bag and let it steep for like 2 to 3 days?

You want to dry hop for 5-7 days to get all the aroma out of the hops. Make sure you sanitize the mesh bag! I would use a full 1 ounce of Cascade. It won't add more bitterness, only that nice citrus/floral aroma! :mug:

Hallertau's are a pretty mild 'Noble hop', and the AA was only 4.3%. So, it won't be anywhere near as bitter as if you had used a stronger variety. Dry hopping with 1oz. of Hallertau will get you that mild, floral aroma. Cascades would be a good choice if you like the citrusy tang.
All in all, I'm pretty sure it'll be OK.

i am thinking of dry hopping 1oz of cascade because i do like the citrusy kind of wheat beers. and i will add it today and leave it in for 7 days because it will be ready to bottle next tuesday. my next beer i am looking at a Dunkelweizen kit from morebeer. and this time i will make sure i follow it perfectly

kp, the best part of brewing is that it is very forgiving. Even when it seems like everything went wrong (I have had those brew days) you still get beer. I have found that rewriting all the steps and times on a notecard helps me keep everything in order. Wheat IPA dry hopped with cascade sounds pretty good.

Also the hardest part of homebrewing is deciding what the next beer will be :D

The note card is a really good idea I like that. Ya I had like 10 people over and I was grilling at the same time and it just wasnt a good day to do it haha
The Dunkelweizen if for me the blond would be for the woman who is putting up with my new obsession so its really hard to decide

Added the 1 oz of cascade hops for dry hopping and took a specific gravity reading and its 1.015. It also smells amazing. I am trying to decide if I should dry hop it for 5 or 7 days, then bottle.

Hallertau are mild alphas so you should taste fine. I use 1.4 bittering of a 6.7 alpha in my British ales and they have less hop than most IPA, plus the 60 min boil time well mellow it out. Let us know how it comes out at tasting time.:mug:

Take care of the woman next! That's what I did with my second batch. Made Biermunchers Centennial Blonde.

I hope it will be a happy accident, it smells amazing. Ya I think I will brew the blonde for my woman next haha so she is happy and I can buy more stuff

Ya she isnt happy as it is that I spent money on another hobby. I have drop tons of money on my others already

I do like whenever I tell people I started making beer everyone is like I wanna be your friend. I think its kinda funny

Once you get your pipeline filled, it's amazing how easy it is cultivating friends willing to trade empties for fulls. Just make sure they rinsed the returns well. Nothing worse than cleaning crusted-on crud from bottles that somebody gave you 'to help you out'.

Ordered the blonde kit from MoreBeer for SWMBO and she is really excited. I have around 500 clean bottles from friends and family haha. So I think im good for a while

Took a SG reading today and tasted it after and it was really good its ready to bottle now im just waiting on my bottle washer to come in it should be either tomorrow or Monday. I believe this has been a happy accident it is really good and its not even bottles yet. Or im just crazy haha
