Hi all.
I've made a few good batches of beer. I started hard apple cider about 3 months ago. I have now let it set in the primary for the whole time, having kinda forgotten about it... It has a lot of sediment and a white film over the top.
Have I totally blown the batch or might it be able to be salvaged into a secondary fermenter?

Here's hoping for something good!

a white film? Odd... Maybe use a wine thief and taste the cider under the white film? Some infections aren't necessarily a bad thing in some beer styles at least.

Then again Yooper is far more knowledgeable than I am, so I would go with her on this.

Yep...thought it might have gone bad. I will at least give the taste test a try. I was looking so forward to it... Thank you all for the replies.

I know a "white film" sounds bad but definitely try it first.

I don't generally make ciders but made Ed Wort's Apfelwein and let it go for about 6 months. I didn't keep an eye on it and sometimes the vodka in the air lock evaporated before I would fill it up again. There was also a slight white film along the edge of the carboy. It didn't cover the entire surface, just at one spot. Anyways, I kegged it, carbed it up, and it tasted fine.

I get a white film from adding campden. With a quick shake it sometimes settles out.

My point being that "white film" is hardly enough to go on to make a conclusion.
