121v 2000w diagram question

Hey All,
I have been reading the thread 110v Recirculating eBIAB 2.5 gallon batches and really dig what is going on. I would love to build the controller that he did but without the pumps. I just want to make sure I am doing everything correct before I order the parts. I want to monitor the water temp and control the heating element but I have no need for the pump. I have a 20 amp outlet and I would like to run a 120v 2000watt element, I just wanted to make sure that was OK as well.

You have a 20A outlet. Be sure the outlet is GFCI so that you are protected. The diagram will work well for you. If you do not want to have the pump setup, just eliminate the pump switch and outlet when you do your controller build. However, I would advise you to consider installing the switch and outlet anyway as things change over time. It is fairly cheap and a lot easier to wire it up front than modifying later on.

I rewired my entire house last summer/fall. I have a couple GFCI 20amp outlets waiting for me to brew on!
Thanks for the input. I agree. I was actuallyt thinking for the cost differnce it was not worth skipping the pump. I actually ordered all the parts yesterday. I hope to get this thing built this weeek/weekend.
I'm sure I will have questions when I start to build this thing.

I purchased a 110v 2000 watt how water heater element
I just installed the element into the kettle and I noticed that there is no ground on the element.

Do I need to worry about grounding this? I will be using a 110v 20 amp circut that is GFCI protected. If this does need to be groudned what is the best way to acomplish this?

What is your method for mounting the element & protecting the element wiring? Is there any place within that where you could attach a ground wire?

It is my absolute belief that providing an equipment ground to electric power kettles is a critical requirement.

PJ, Thanks for the reply.

I welded in a bung that the hot water element screws into. I am using a slighty differnt pot than most folks- the pot is copper and also the bung that is welded to the pot. I will be using this pot to distill beer.
any ideas on how to ground it?

Copper pot? That one is very easy. Simply use electrical solder to bond the ground wire to the pot. (Copper to copper... Really easy...)

That is what I was thinking, just wanted to make sure that was correct.

That terminal block has 6 positions where 2 terminal screw are connected together. Adjacent sections (6 total) are insulated from each other.

With that said, you certainly can use it for for both the neutral & hot lines. Just wire the sets you need together with jumper wires.
