I woyld like to roast my own barley to cut some costs. Was wondering if I can use Feed Barley from my local CO-OP. If not where can I get it?

Feed barley is going to be lower quality than a human consumption version. Ive done this in the past, but I had to clean it up a little as it had other stuff in it. I gave it a soak and tossed whatever floated, and then roasted it in the oven. I have also malted feed barley, but it seemed to have a higher protein percentage as the resulting beers were very cloudy (tasted fine though).

You can also use seed barley, but make sure it isn't treated with anything. I get cheap unmalted rye this way from a local AG supply store.

Good luck!
