I'm just starting to put my own recipes together and would greatly appreciate any feedback. I'm not really looking for anything specific, just whether I'm making any glaring mistakes. Thanks!

damn a whole pound of hops.

i would add two more pounds of base malt and skip citra at 60 minutes. otherwise i'm curious to see how this combo works out.

Looks great except I would use all Chinook for the bitter or Magnum and around 1.5oz since this is a IIPA. This will be tasty!

Another one for a bigger bittering addition. I'd personally move some of the 20 Minute addition into the 60, and shoot for about 50 IBU's(Or more) from the 60 Minute addition.

Thanks for the tips! I guess I should've mentioned that I'm an idiot and already ordered the ingredients. The homebrew shops around here don't have much of a selection so I might just drop the citra and add more chinook for the bittering hops.

Alright then I think I might move my 20 min chinook addition to 60 min giving me 2 oz at about 62 ibu and move the .5 of citra from 60 to 20 so my 20 min addition is just 2 oz of citra.

So that would be:

2 oz chinook @ 60
2 oz citra @ 20
2 oz chinook and 2 oz citra @ 10
2 oz chinook and 2 oz citra @ 0

Or maybe:

2 oz chinook @ 60
2 oz citra and 1 oz chinook @ 20
2 oz citra and 1 oz chinook @ 10
2 oz citra and 2 oz chinook @ 0

Any thoughts?

damn that's a lot of citra.

ok, i'm going to vote for the first one. citra is super pungent imo. with the first one you're cooking a bit more down and balancing the rest with an equal amount of chinook. if you really like citra and want it to be even more dominant then go with the second imo.

Hmmm. I just read another thread about citra and now I'm starting to regret going with it for this recipe. I might end up getting another hop or two so I can cut down on the citra. I'm a big fan of Victory Dirt Wolf so I might go with simcoe and/or mosaic. I just made a mosaic SMaSH pale ale and am really digging it.

not sure what you've read but a lot of people are in agreement that citra is quite pungent and can take over in a beer. i'm in that camp.

i don't think you're out of bounds here, just try to achieve a ratio. 2:1 chinook over citra. or you could blend the citra with an equal amount of centennial and use the blend against another hop. citra/centennial blend is known for being very fruity. i believe pineapple was the specific flavor people mentioned. could be good tossed in with some amarillo.

RonPopeil makes a good point, Citra is a great hop, but can definitely be overdone. I do a Chinook,Simcoe & Citra IPA that comes out pretty good. I only use 1 1/2oz of Citra in it, but I want to bump that up a bit on my next batch. It's got a tropical, apricot kind of thing going on. If you can get your hands on some Simcoe I would suggest this....

1 3/4 oz chinook @ 60
1 oz citra & 1 oz Simcoe @ 20
2 oz chinook, 1 oz citra, & 1 oz Simcoe @ 10
2 oz chinook,1 oz citra & 1 oz Simcoe @ 0

Dry hop with 1 oz of each

Or something along those lines:)

I think I'm going to get some simcoe and go with something like this. Thanks a lot guys! :)

Here's what the recipe ended up being. I kicked the keg of this last night. The bitterness seemed a bit harsh at first, but after a few weeks in the keg it mellowed out to a nice beer. Thanks again for the help.
