Hi!

I'm brewing up my first batch in Europe as I type - it took me a while to get all the equipment together, but i've got it and it's finally brewday! I picked up a hydrometer at the (relatively) lhbs, pulled it out today and found this.

It it is, as has been pointed out, a Brix or Plato hydrometer. It should say Bx or °P on it somewhere and there should be an indication as to the temperature at which it's supposed to be used. To convert roughly to SG multiply the reading by 4 and put 1.0 in front of that e.g 10 Bx --> 40 -->1.040. Below 2.5 put 1.00 in front e.g. 2 --> 8 ---> 1.008.

To delete a post edit it and click the Delete button at the lower right hand edge of the edit window.
