I usually buy my grains milled. Unfortunately, on a recent AHS purchase I forgot to choose the milled option. So, I bought a cheap corona mill, figured I could use it.

The new mill has a strong petroleum oil kind of smell. I assume as a lubricant or anti rust agent. Should I wash or should I not wash, that is the question? Thanks.

Maybe run a cup of some kind of grain through it (rice or something) and see if it picks up any of the smell.

If it does, I guess you don't have a choice but to clean it. Might want to blowdry it or something afterwards to keep it from rusting?
