What is your favorite commercial Belgian and what was your best home brewed Belgian?

One brew at a time...

Tie between Rochefort 6 and Orval.

Oh, and the best home brewed Belgian I guess would be the AHS Orval clone I have aging right now. I'm guessing it's going to be my best at any rate.

Easiest drinking, delicious witbier, nothing fancy, just a brew:

6.6 lbs briess belgian lme
1oz tettnanger @ 60
1oz hallertauer @ 10 or 5 (your choice)

SA-05 yeast

Ferment to completion, bottle condition with 1c sugar/5 gal. Drink.

Freaking Delicious, ready from brew-day to glass in a month.

Sometimes you just want something to drink without the hassle...

Oh, man, there are so many. Today, I'm going to say it's a toss up between St. Bernardus Triple and 3 Fonteinen Geuze. My answer might be different tomorrow.

Favorite brew was my "clone" of Achel Bruin. That turned out really well. I think I'm going to tweak it a bit and brew again when the weather warms up a bit.

Where did you find said recipe? Or can you send it to me? I have Brewing Classic Styles with Jamil's Orval clone. Have you brewed that one.

You can probably tell that I like Orval.

It's Austin Homebrew Shop's recipe. They're not big on posting their recipes so I won't. All I'll say is that it doesn't include Brett so I'm really not sure how it'll turn out. The samples smelled and tasted great though.

By the way: nice av

Cool. I made a mental note to PM you in a month or whenever you've had a chance to try it. I've been wanting to brew an Orval clone as my next batch but I'm a little hesitant to brew with bret because I lack patience.

Somebody say Orval? My second trip to Orval> ;)

Really like Lupulus Blond, a Ardennes Tripple

But really picking just one is foolish, open book to any page

I find it impossible to give a favorite Belgian.

My Brugge Tripel clone. Nothing but Pilsner malt, sugar, 550 fermented warm. Oh, and hops

Dupont Moinette, or goose island sofie if we're including american breweries

i've only made one belgian, Houblon's Chouffe IPA clone. Warm out of the primary it's awesome.

Van Steenberge Piraat

My last Belgian Dubbel I made with Wy1214 fermented @72*F
Scaled back the Rochefort 8 recipe to 6.5% and used 1214

Belgian abbeys are the most forgiving beers to brew.

Cool, yeah, I'll post a thread on it too since it's Something I've been asked about once before. I'm very curious too. As it stands I don't see how it's going to mimic Orval but I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. At the very least I'm going to have a very tasty Belgian ale so either way I consider this a win.

By the way: the instructions in the AHS recipe are very descriptive and really easy to follow. This was also a partial mash so I'm curious as to how the AG would behave and taste.

St Bernardus Abt 12 is my all time favorite beer. PERIOD

Im just getting into actually brewing Belgians. I have the Tripel extract kit from NB that I am brewing next. Can anyone recommend any other good Belgian extract kits?

Yea, so many.

Rochefort 10
Westvleteren 12
St Bernardus 12
Orval
Saison De Pipaix (14 yrs old :) )
Cantillon beers in general.
etc, etc.
