So I just woke up to find the foam cap on my growler blown and the growler completely open to whatever may have found its way in. Is this yeast starter donezo or should I be ok to brew and pitch this yeast? It's been about 7 hours since I've seen the cap on and needless to say I'm super pissed being ill have to order new yeast online. Well I guess I could go get a few packs of s-05 at LHBS I was planning on brewing a 1.107 stout. Ugggg.

You should be fine. A quick check would be to use a BBQ lighter and see if the flame extinguishes inside the neck of the growler....that would indicate that there is plenty of CO2 in there.

Is the starter still actively fermenting?

You should find something more porous than foam. It is overkill and too restricting. Or just use foil.

There was a bunch of fruit flies around it so I wasn't going to chance screwing up a 80$ batch of beer. I went to the LHBS and picked up 4 packs of muntons premium yeast and its actively fermenting away.

Yeah I thought the foam cap would work well being that they sell them specifically for this purpose but I guess I was wrong. Im thinking I'll go back to the tin foil method In the future.
