I have been reading up on threads regarding washing and storing yeast for re-use my question is can I save yeast that has settled in the bottles as I have a couple of bottles of beer from my last batch where some of the sediment from the fermenter got into the beer and has left a pretty thick layer of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. If I rinsed that bottle with cold boiled water once I have poured out the beer could I wash that yeast and use it to make a starter for my next batch of beer.

You can reuse this yeast. It would be better to leave some beer in the bottle to swirl the yeast into for pouring. The beer is a better environment than water. Using water can cause osmotic pressure damage to the cell walls of the yeast.
