So it's day 3 of my first batch of mead, and I still haven't noticed my air lock bubbling, but when I opened the lid to check and maybe add a new packet of yeast I saw this:

Did my yeast activate and it's just taking extra long or did I do something wrong?

Thanks!

It's working. There's probably just a leak somewhere & the CO2 is escaping there, rather than your airlock. Go around the lid, pressing down every few inches & that should do the trick; and if it doesn't, I wouldn't worry too much about it, the layer of CO2 on the liquid's surface will protect it.
Regards, GF.
