If you are going to rack onto a yeast cake, does it need to be right after you rack the beer off the cake? or how long can you keep the cake and still have it viable? i have one that has been sitting about a week under a 1/2 inch of beer, still good?

You could use it. Personally, I'd wash it and pitch at a proper rate though. Just my $0.02.

I'd use it if it's worth saving the price of yeast. For me it's always worth it just cause I hate driving to lhbs on the other side of town just for an overpriced $4 pack of yeast..definitely look into washing for the future.

same here, the lhbs is on the othe side of town. it would probably cost the the same amount in gas as the price of the yeast.

thanks guys.
