So I just bottled my pale ale this morning and this is the first time I've used wyeast liquid yeast so I have a question for you guys. I opened up my fermenter after 14 days and getting consistent gravity readings for 3 days, I ended up with a good fermentation and hit my 5.2% ABV mark which was where Beer Smith out my recipe at.

When I opened up the fermenter I had quite but of floaters and the yeast cake at the bottom was pretty loose. It fermented at a consistent 64 degrees for 14 days. So I my question is was it not in the primary long enough and that's the reason for the floaters and loose yeast cake or did I do something else wrong?

I leave all my beers in primary for 3 weeks or more, but if I recall when I use 1056, I have some yeast rafts and the cake is not real packed. I have not really been concerned so I didn't pay that much attention to it.

1056 has been one of my favorites so far - 18 batches since July.

I had another recently that had a lot of stuff floating after 3 weeks. I don't remember which yeast and I just tried to keep from transferring too much to the bottling bucket.
