wow. 120 minute IPA sold out quick!

it just came in late last week (didn't know). I Was reading on my local beer stores site and saw it just came in, gave them a call and they had sold out that day . frantically i called around to see if they had any elsewhere, finally at the last place i called, they had 6 left! so i'm having them hold 3 for me so i can grab them after work.
Anyone else having a hard time finding this too!?

Hot commodity. I heard rumors this was a smaller batch than previous years. And if you're familiar with Dogfish's Discovery Channel show then you'd also know they've had issues brewing it over the past year or two. From what I've heard from other sources the 120 sells out same day as its released, if not soon after. I'm curious how much you paid for it?

it's 8.99 a bottle over here in oregon.
i was talking to my beer guy at the store, said he was hearing something about them brewing 3 batches all back to back, so here is to hoping! maybe to make up for it from last year.
and yes! i love that show, ended up recording them and putting them on DVD so i can watch them anytime i want

Oooh yeah, you are getting ripped off. I bought two from two different stores (limited one per customer at each store) for $8.99 each. Las Vegas got 12 cases of 120. At the two stores I found it at (Khoury's Fine Wine and Spirits and Whole Foods), they soon sold out that same day. At another store, all bottles were preordered and accounted for before they ever arrived (screw Total Wine).

I know DFH released a batch of bottles on 06/15, and yes, that sold out crazy fast. They also released a batch of 100% kegs on 07/12.

Was there a third batch released, or is this just a distributor that held off releasing a few cases?

My friend had it on tap over in Ohio. Let's just say I was a little jealous! And three are in my possession and in my fermentation fridge till I can find somewhere to age them properly

It's all hype after they dumped a batch on brew masters. I would try it if it and I happened to be at the same place but not sweating it. There is supposed to be another batch yet this year.

I've never had it, and the Black & Red at OBF was so awful, I'm not worried about buying any of their beers, but it would have been fun trying one of their hyped beers. That said, I'd love to try their Chicha.

I worked hard to grab a couple of bottles. Will NEVER do that again.. It was one of the worst beers I have ever had. The aroma was non-existent, it was thick and super malty. I poured out the rest of the open bottle and gave the other one away.

Regarding the original topic: When I was in Delaware last month, I tried like hell to find some 120, and every place I went to said the same thing -- it sold out in a day. I did manage to score some Worldwide Stout though...and a bottle of 2005 Fort from the brewpub! I'll be thinking about when to open that one...perhaps at New Years...

Really? All I could think was, "WTF, Robitussin?" There were quite a few funky beers at OBF, this one just happened to stand out in its horribleness, but I will give you the unique part.

I actually really liked the 2011 120 minute. I do feel it could be better (drier with more hops), but I still thought it was a good beer. Yes it's sweet, but I knew that going in.

i've known about this beeer for years and could just never track it down. damn you brew masters! lol

Yeah, I stopped by Belmont Station here in Portland last week, but it was sold out. Apparently they got only 1 or 2 cases. (By contrast, they got 8 cases of Pliny last time it showed up).

It's definitely not your friendly neighborhood IPA. I have about 12 bottles of it that I've been cellaring for the past 3 years. I got 16 when I first bought them. I only drink them once a year, on the anniversary on when my divorce when through. That day is a good day. My ex was the enemy of beer and was a toxic wench indeed. Divorce was the only option. But I digress, back to the 120 Minute.

It has definitely improved with age and really is no longer an IPA after a couple years. The hops are much less noticeable and the beer becomes much more smooth and rounded. It's like a fine cognac over time and should be sipped slowly, possibly enjoyed with a cigar.

It's hardly an IPA in the first place IMO.

In Delaware its about 8.99-9.99 a bottle... You can usually pick it up pretty easily down in the lower counties, as everyone drinks natural light. I will usually get a bottle or two, but yes... I dont really care for it that much. I saw someone did a clone of it here... I wonder how it turned out...

Its just completely not worth it in my opinion. I can get bottles here pretty easily for some reason. It is only really drinkable if you age it for a good while and that defeats the purpose of an IPA to begin with. After a certain time I feel I can get a hurricane 40 that is about the same product, just less syrupy

Yeah, I would def not call it an IPA.

I had it on tap at the brew pub. I think it was $7 for an 8 or 10oz glass.

I've got a pretty big thread going on a clone. It's tough, but it's definitely do-able. Mine is still fermenting -- currently at 19.5% ABV
