My last brewing was really messy after my bazooka clogged, im looking for something to decrease amount of hops in the wort, would this work:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004X4LGIO/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20
Im thinking about using it for all additions, just pull it out and add more hops and dunk back in BK, is there any downside for using something like that?

I can't see why it wouldn't work...unless you were using all leaf hops and a lot of them. Seems like it might be messy opening it up to add more as well.

I have one but have not used it yet. Although it is big it won't really hold as many leaf hops as you would think because once they get wet they take up a lot of space. If you are using it for pellets I think the mesh opening is too large and wont contain enough of the gunk. And trying to open that when it is hot and sticky will not be an easy task. So I'd use more than one and put them into the boil and leave them be with leaf hops. Pellets get the bag treatment for me.

I used a smaller one for a batch a few weeks ago. It was just big enough to hold an ounce of pellet hops. Once the hops were wet they swelled up and packed the ball. They ended up being packed tight enough that I don't think I got much bittering from the middle of the ball. A bigger one may work good. I now use the little one to add spices for belgians and whatnot.

I've just been bagging hops in small muslin bags, and those hold in most of the gunk, but not all of it. I'm gonna make a hop spider in the near future.

Do you remember what size is your infuser?, i ordered this one (4x5") but if its too small i can still cancel this order

Thinking about buying this to use to keep hops out of the dip tube on my valve. Make a hole in the ball for the dip tube and whirlpool.

I use this size tea ball for dry hopping, it works well for ~3 oz of hops... As previously mentioned they swell quite a bit when wet. I use smaller 2" tea balls for dry hopping with about an ounce or so. I think it would work well in the boil for smaller amounts of hops but not for a big IPA.

The one I used was about the size of a baseball. About 3" or so diameter.

I like the strainer bags too. I've been bagging my additions in advance in small throw-away bags. If you don't over-stuff them the hops get just about the same action as if they were loose. Last batch I brewed, at the end all three of my hop additions were convecting around the pot like clockwork, and the mess is eliminated. I'm done with pellets - the bags won't contain the hop-ooze.

i cancelled my order for the infuser, thanks all for the input, indeed it would be hard to do multiple additions using it, i guess i will build hop spider
