i was thinking about using frozen lemon or a rum runner frozen concentrate to add to the boil after the heat is removed and/or into the primary. does anyone know if this would work or has anyone tried it?

Sorry guy, never tried anything quite like that. I wouldn't know what might happen. Keep us posted if you do it though...

What type of sugar is in concentrate juices and such??

I don't think adding anything other than malt sugars is a great idea. But I guess one can per 5 gallon batch couldn't hurt THAT much, right?

I've actually just finished this. I used a half a can of concentrate. I added it to the secondary.

BTW it was lime juice in a cerveza and has turned out really good. Next time I'll add the full can.

Seems to me it'd be fine if it doesn't contain harsh preservatives. Not all preservatives are harmful to yeast. Gotta check that trulemon box again.

Awesome, im gonna look into the sugar content and preservatives. I want to add some flavor to this honey bee ale i got from mid west. im thinking lemon or orange.:mug:

also i just got my last batch fully carbonated, a nut brown ale with a little corn meal added. we call it "nuttin corn crunch" if your a south park fan you might know what that is, haha.

Not frozen juice concentrate, but I've added cans of whole cranberry sauce by Ocean Spray. One can (15oz?) per gallon in the cranberry maibock, along with honey, and other spices. Point is, there was a lot of sugar added to the wort and it fermented out nice and dry. Delicious though.

Now if the frozen juice concentrate is all natural, 100% juice, you should be fine to add it post boil. It'll help cool the wort too.

Thanks bomber, im gonna look at the selections at the store, i wanted orange juice concentrate for the honey ale im going to be making soon once the cherry wheat im have fermenting is done.

I've used frozen concentrate for a number of batches, ranging from beer to mead, and it works great. I have started one a few hours ago that will also use frozen concentrate. I just let it thaw and add however many containers (12 oz) to a 5 gallon batch, usually not exceeding 3, for my tastes.

I've used pineapple, apple, strawberry, passion fruit, kiwi, etc.

At waht point did you add the concentrate? While it was hot wort or in a fermentation bucket

I've always added it to the secondary. That way, I retain most of the fruit aroma that I'm after. If you add it to the hot wort, it will probably drive off some of those aromas.
