phooo. Well it has only been bottled two weeks so I ain't sweatin' yet but man. Blech.

My first all grain is not too pleasant at the moment. Since it is my first all grain batch I guess I am not sure what to expect. Do they tend to be "greener" tasting at first than say an extract or pm batch?

It is a best bitter. It is well, kind of "gassy"? Sort of sulphur-ey but more like a match after you blow it out. Maybe DMS but hopefully not becasue that does not go away does it? It is not very malty sweet at all but that may be covered by the other flavors. I can detect the hops but not pleasantly. It is not awful wretched but not something I would seek out to drink. I'll give it a few weeks. Just moved it too the cellar anyways.

I guess the oly thing I am "concerned" about is that damn yeasty looking coating on the sides of the bottles. I have been scrubbing soaking and sanitizing the crap out of my bottles since the easyeast episodes but I am still paranoid there is residue and it is spreading!!! :drunk:  :cross:

Okay breathing...

RDWHAHB (but you knew that anyway, didn't you ;) )

Well, I will for you anyway.

Try it again in a few weeks. I bet it's much better.

What type of beer? I am going to be joining you tomorrow by cracking my first AG brew! - Dirk

It is a best bitter. What've you got? I mostly opened my early to check the carbonation level... All in the name of science of course! :D

Still not "worrying" per se but thinking back now I can see where I may have taken on some dms. I did not have my new pot or burner for my first batch so I boiled in two pots on the stove. One burner was fine the other I could not keep a rolling boil. So, I had the lid partially on for most of the boil. So it is a possibility I suppose. That
and my not so effecient chilling methods... Oh well, no sweat. Just trying to think of possible answers in case it does not improve but that is a waste of time! :drunk:

time to hahb... er, I suppose 8:49 am may be a bit early on a non brew day...

I made two in a row that I am not happy with and the stuff I like is now dwindling down to me last dozen or so. I am still holding out hope for one of them, but the other is just borked.. I used way to much crystal malt and its not a pleasant taste.

*cry*

So I made another batch of a nice safe, no-experiment, known good beer. Looks like I might have to help SWMBO attack the 30 odd liters of cider she has stocked up for a few weeks when its ready to roll.

I feel your pain. I have a batch of Magic Hat #9 clone and I kegged it. I think the keg could have been a little cleaner but I WAY over carbonated it and now it comes out a nice foam. When it settles the beer is very nice except for the fact that it tastes like butter. YUCK. Oh well back to the lab.

What PSI are you using to dispense? You can de-carbonate by releasing all the pressure in the keg, and then setting the regulator lower. Unless you have it cranked up, though, it's more likely that your beer lines are too short.

Diacetyl. I *think* you can address that by letting the beer warm to 66-70 for a couple days, and purging/venting the diacetyl as it comes out of the beer.

Thank you Bike N Brew. I will remove the keg from the fridge today. As far as the carbonation goes I did have it at about 30psi for a couple of weeks. It was a constant 30psi because it was hooked to the regulator. I know now that I should hit it with 30 psi and then UNHOOK it from the regulator and let it condition. Thank you so much for the help!
