Just bought a new and my first stock pot so I can boil my own wort recipes and i've been worried by a cook friend of mine who said my stock pot is likely to buckle under heat! it was described as a homebrew able pot, it is quite thin and the base looks thin too. it does look susceptible to dents and has picked up 2 or 3 little divots but nothing drastic.
this is it here;

also if it might hold up, whats the best way to boil. ive got an electric oven with the biggest heat plate half the diameter of the stockpot1

I have a thin bottomed stainless steel stock pot as well, the 20qt pot from Brewers Best. And like you, I have an electric stove with the large burner being around 7.5" diameter while the base of the brewing kettle is probably around 12-13". Just brewed my first batch two days ago and it was no problem. I can see where a thicker based pot would be better but it got the job done. I got mine for around $32 so pretty inexpensive. I did see walmart has a nice 22qt pot with a much thinker base for $59. Not sure if it's worth the extra cost or not.

Your pot will be fine. I have a electric stove and I found it was much easier to just buy a propane burner and boil outside.

About February of last year,Giant Eagle had a set of 4 nested SS stock pots with lids & steamer trays-polished-for about $25 on sale. I'm still using the 5G (20qt) one for all my brewing up to partial mash biab. No buckling etc. Just take care of it & keep it seperate from other cooking vessels. Mine only gets used for beer brewing. I brew on an electric stove with aftermarket burners that get hotter faster than the old GE ones did. I can get 3G boiling in about 18 minutes now.

IMO, that's just silly. If there's no liquid in it perhaps, but who does that. Brew with confidence. The sole purpose of a stock pot is to cook things and I'm quite sure it can handle 212 degrees. That being said, with a thin pot, make sure the burner is off if you use liquid extract or it will be scorch city!
