Hello everyone
Long time brewer, decades in fact. Originally from the People's Independent Republic of South Devon but I now live about an hour away from Geneva, half way between Lyon and Geneva.

I heard that @Cheshire Cat and @OakIslandBrewery and @duncan_disorderly and @An Ankoù how out round these parts so I decided to drop in.

The Womble pseudonym rather describes my waist line, I am not from Wimbledon and neither do I know Mme Cholet.

Welcome to the group!

Nice to have you on board. Very helpful bunch here with mostly helpful information.

And here is what I brewed yesterday.

Belgian Strong Ale
6 kg of Pilsner malt
1 kg of light DME
0.5 kg of table sugar
0.3 kg of acid malt (hard water treatment)
Aramis hops to the tune of 35 IBU, 60 grs early addition only.
1080 to around 1014 ish
8.7% abv predicted.

Welcome. Have to say, I grew up with the Wombles (at least from the show on telly in the late 70's, early 80's. The beginnings back in 68 were a couple of years before my time). Is that Wellington you have as your avatar?

Wellington, yes, he's the one who corresponds to my personality, introverted and self-absorbed !

Six string, is this saying you play a musical instrument ?

Curiously, I seemed to have missed* the Wombles, but I have strong memories of the Clangers. I think because their piping "voices" was so appealing.

*Except for The Wombles theme tune, which, I think was in the (then so called) British hit parade for about a million years.

Clangers > The Wombles

Sorry Womble!

Welcome Womble, where in South Devon are you from. We have a holiday place in Brixham.
You know this, we have talked about Brixham. Originally from Chudleigh, spent some time in Exeter, spent lots of time walking over the moors and climbing on the coast near Torquay and Paignton.
I'll be back in Exeter around the 20th of July if you are about, would be fun to meet up in Brixham, if you are into it of course.

Next obvious question, classical, jazz, blues, C&W, folk, metal ... ?
Music is an integral part of my life, all day, every day.
Excuse me butting in guys, but it's mine, too. I've been dallying with Nordic metal and pagan metal or folk bands of late. My fave so far is Heilung, by a mile, but I've recently come across a French band called Skáld who are at the very pleasant easy listening edge of those genres. I'd recommend you give them a listen. Le Chant des Vikings is a good start.

Tell me about it. I lose track of my thoughts in seconds.
Meet if poss, no pressure though, I will be back seeing family so I will be busy on my side.

I like a _lot_ of styles of music. I don't play them all though, as I'm not that good of a musician :D
I have BBC Radio 6 playing all day every day, as they have such a diverse amount of music covered (they pretty much cover all the genres except Opera. I don't think i've ever heard that played on Radio 6 (which is fine, as of them all, that's probably the genre I would say I don't enjoy if I had to say one), it's great (and no adverts makes it 100% better).
But if I was asked "what do I tend to listen to the most, if not playing the radio?" Then I would have to say it'd be Electronica (The Orb, Orbital, Air, Chemical Brothers, Future Sound of London, etc), alternative/indie/goth/punk (The Smiths, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Fields of the Nephilim, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, Goat, etc), sounds of the 60's, and metal (Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Led Zep, Deep Purple, Smashing Pumpkins, etc).

Like you, music is an integral part of my life. I can't remember a day in my life, from my earliest memories to my most current, where I didn't hear music playing every day.

Thanks for the complete answer. A lot in there that I know by name only. Arctic Monkeys, never got them, I even bought an album and still didn't get it but a lot of people love their music.

I will listen to almost anything from 1500 up. I don't get rap, must be a generation thing. I get bored listening to all of the afro-pop hip hop movement that teenagers listen to. Otherwise, real live gigging bands, love 'em.

The blues is the back-drop to most of my musical journey. If there is some blues or blues influence in there somewhere, I am pretty happy.

Rap isn't a generational thing, it just isn't music.

You're right it's not. It's no more music than reciting poetry is music. It's rap.
Not my cup of tea, but it's not from my time and culture and it's never really appealed to me.

With your liking for electronica and your psychedelic avatar, I'm surprised Ozric Tentacles isn't up there. I think I've got all of their albums- well, with the number of bootlegs and cassettes lurking around, that's like saying I've got all the Grateful Dead albums, but I think I've got all the "official stuff". And with that, and Banco de Gaia, again, love them all, that's about the only electronic stuff I've ever dabbled with. Must seek further afield!

A good lashing of blues-based, symphonic, Viking death-metal is about as good as it gets. Or in the absence of Vikings, pirate metal will do and I'll settle for the lashing! :bigmug:

Are you a British exile?
