I'm brewing a basic bitter and using wlp002. Made a starter. Fermented at 64°F and raised to 68°F after the ferment slowed. I'm at 7 days now. The krausen has fallen but there is a thin layer floating on top. Nothing abnormal there. What's different is when I look from the side I see what look like little strings hanging down from the top. They only extend down about 3/4 of an inch. I've never seen this before with a other yeast and this is the first time using wlp002. Is this normal? Do I have an infection? I can't seem to find much. All the infections I read about seem to float on the top. These ones hang down from the top into the beer. Any ideas? Thanks!

Do you have any photos? WLP002 is notorious for looking like egg drop soup (especially in starters/more compact spaces) so it sounds like its just being typical 002

I'll post pics when I get home. They look more like hairs or strings. The egg drop soup has settled out already. The hairs are pretty fine and not necessarily straight. They hang down about 3/4 to an inch into the beer.

It sounds strange, but yeasts do strange things. Sometimes, I get matzo balls in fermenters with 002. Other times, I'll just get typical yeast rafts. It's probably fine.

Ya Im pretty much convinced its 002 just being 002. Doesnt sound completely out of the norm for that yeast

Ok. Thanks guys. Sorry I never got the pics up. I have two little ones at home sick. Hasn't left me with a lot of extra time. You're probably right, I've just never seen it before. Learning every day!
