Looking to try out my first lager this weekend, but the home brew shop was short in supply of Lager strains, but had 1 each of WL800 & WY2007. Both are described as pilsner yeast. This bill is a little darker than a typical pils. How do you think it will work?
Light Lager, extract with 4lbs of grain
Batch Size: 10 Gal
Color: 10.02
IBU: 27.26
Grain/Extract Bill:
2 lbs Crystal 40 (steeped for 30 min @ 150)
2 lbs Carapils (Steeped for 30 Min @ 150)
6.6 lbs Bries Pilsen LME
4 lbs Muntons Golden Light DME
Hops:
Cascade: 2oz (4.8 AA) @ 60 min
Cascade: 3oz (4.8 AA) @ 20 Min
Cascade: 2oz (4.8 AA) @ Flame out.
I normally do all grain brews, but with football season my brewing time will be very limited for the next 4 weeks, but I plan on sneaking in this batch on Sunday. I figure this is the ideal time to dedicate the fermentation chamber to a beer that takes longer to ferment. What do you think? I can pick up some Safelager S-23 today of that would be more appropriate for this recipe. The goal is a relatively light, easy drinking lager for those occasions when something light and refreshing is preferred.
