But Vicki Noble, a famed healer, astrologer and spiritual leader in the pagan community, saw only evil in Witch's Wit after a worker in a liquor store called the bottle to her attention last week.

What sort of news article uses "famed healer" like it's an actual descriptive term?

This is honestly good press for Lost Abbey, nobody cares about someone crazy enough to be offended by a depiction of a witch being burned. But it's a lot of mainstream press. The only bummer is, I think this beer is a summer seasonal so they won't get a sales bump.

The next thing you know, some kids will be kicked out of school for wearing the American flag because it offends some people on a Mexican holiday.

...Wait a minute...

It's a bunch of pagans who practice wicca, they're offended by the depiction seeing as how they're real life witches. I see how they're offended.

I do think it's good publicity for Port though.

Considering Wicca was developed ~50 years ago, I don't see how connected they are to some person being burned hundreds of years ago.

As someone who is fatherless, I am offended that there is a beer called Arrogant Bastard! Let us all protest and demand they change the name!

Modern wicca is 'neopagan' but its roots go waaaaaay way back to pagan beliefs from pre-history and modern pagans feel a strong connection to these beliefs, hence being offended.

TBH tho I think it's kind of silly to protest the beer, the whole series of beers is tongue in cheek to begin with.

5.2 abv is pretty weak for lost abbey tho...

I might go down there get a bomber of the witches wit and try it out.:mug:

I think someone needs to come out with a line of beers that offends EVERYONE.

I wish we could somehow include this in the article. Or can we send it to the "world renowned healer" that they mention?

We need to consult the South Park guys for that

so no one thinks its offensive? I mean, this was an atrocity against humans and quite sick if you ask me(burning witches at the stake) and definately did happen. I personally think burning humans is wrong, while I'm not that offended per se, a person who connects with the person being depicted, on a spiritual level(its like their religion right), I could see how its a bit much for a beer. Just on a human rights level it could be likened to any other atrocity, and I can't think of any others I would be cool with depicted on my beer.

Please! This is just too much PC!!! Where will it all end?

JNye, you do have a good point. The persecution of "witches" was a terrible, terrible thing. Back then, they were killing innocent people for what was (in those times) perceived as religious heresy. It didn't take much for one to get a "trial by fire"...basically all it took was for somebody to accuse you. If you were accused of being a witch, you had to prove you weren't one. By not catching on fire.

Really, it was that f***ed up.

But, today, for somebody to say they are "offended" by a beer label depicting this....I think they want one of two things. Attention...or money.

Honestly, this is America. If somebody doesn't like it, they don't have to buy the beer. If they want to go so far as to try to convince others not to buy it, that's fine too. But personally, I don't get it.

Where was the outrage over this one?

I think they need to STFU and just not buy the beer, It really chaps my ass when we all have to be worried about hurting someones precious feelings. Life is way too short to worry about making sure everyones all warm and fuzzy inside. It's their beer and they can call it whatever they want.

And what do you burn aside from witches?....... MORE WITCHES!!!!
Dont make me get my Zippo.

Did anyone fill one of these out?
