Guessing it would be OK, but you might look into the 7.9 gallon fermentor sold by a lot of homebrew stores. Even more head space. It's what I have and even with it, a 5 gallon barleywine overflowed it.
 
i have 3 lhbs stores within 15 minute drive including morebeer and so far 2 of them dont have that 7.9, i will call the 3rd tomarrow,, i was just getting a backup plan
 
Yes, those are very nice buckets...100 mil thickness and very sturdy...I have had a couple like that for years.
 
I have a few of those that I ferment in. I got mine from US Plastics (I think the price is better and you don't have to buy five). Make sure you buy the lids that go with them, the HD and Lowes 5 gallon lids do not fit.
 
Try fermcap foam inhibitor to reduce the foam and then you will not need all the head space. It works.

Does the fermcap affect fermentation at all... this is for the dfh 120 clone which is an expensive batch to brew and very high alcohol. I dont want to risk the yeast stalling early?
