Will this effect my beer?

I just brewed my second batch (double IPA). First day in the fermenter and I have it sitting in my tub because i'm worried about blow off, however it is fermenting on the cooler side of the scale (65*) maybe a little cooler.

Anyway, this morning my Fiance didn't know that my bucket was in the tub (curtain was closed) and she turned the shower on to create steam in the bathroom. Question being, is the shower going to ruin anything?? She said the air lock and everything was still in tact when she realized it was in there and she turned the shower off. She also mentioned the shower ran for about 20 mins.

I don't really see an issue with this since it's in an air tight bucket and the air lock was still on. and with the hot water i would imagine it may have warmed the beer a bit, which it could probably use anyways.

Any thoughts?

I'd imagine it's gonna be ok, depends on how hot the beer in the bucket got, I guess....too high temps can create off flavors. I find brewing beer easier in a carboy with a big fat blowoff tube shoved into it and the other end in a good sized vessel with water/sanitizer in it. I use my buckets for primary ferment of meads only. It should probably be OK, but only time will tell, I guess...

It'll be fine. Even 20 minutes in a shower (just running water, not in a stopped tub?) probably wouldn't bring 5 gal up too much in temperature. I'm sure the plastic bucket doesn't have very efficient thermal transfer either.

I'd be more concerned about the fiance running the hot water for 20 minutes just to make steam. :cross:

Quick update on this thread. I took the bucket out of the tub last night and the temp strip read 55 degrees (looks like shower cooled the bathroom and the beer!), not sure how accurate those things are but i decided to move my by bucket to the closet where it's a bit warmer (65-68*) although with this frigid weather who knows...I wrapped my bucket in a blanket to hopefully warm things up.

So with all this said I'm assuming my fermentation has haulted or slowed at the very least. I'm not quite panicing yet, but would time and a little warm up be the trick to get this big guy going?

Getting the internal temp up to 65F or a tad more should do it in a day or so after it gets up to temp.
