hey guys, gonna be using an airlock to attach my 3/8 tubing to. You guys think it'll get clogged??? I'll be using wyeast 3787. I cut off the part that tapers on the airlock. I'm hoping this will do cause I went to home depot to check how much the tubing cost, the wide mouth ones that are the same size of the carboy opening are 5.++ dollar per foot, so i'd be paying over 20 bucks for that tubing.

That's a fairly standard setup around here, as far as I can tell. I've used it a couple of times myself without a clogging problem. But that isn't to say a problem isn't possible. When I'm using a blowoff tube, I tend to check on it once or twice a day. As long as the airways look clear, you're golden. And once the activity is settled down, it's easy-peasy to switch back to a regular airlock. :)

It depends on the intensity of your fermentation. When you're ready, I highly recommend getting a 6.5-7 gallon fermenter. I haven't used a blow-off tube in years.

well right now, i have a 6gallon better bottle.

ok, i'll try it out for now...keep my eye on it and if ever i do see some clogging or a potential i'll just remove it and clear it. I only got worried because my starter's fermentation was off the hook...and the foam coming out of my starter glass is so damn sticky...i'll just have to keep an eye on it
