Why dose my beer taste bad

I just brewed a Irish Red ale and it smell like beer but it taste bad like wood chips when I pour it into a glass the carbonation is good I think this is my first homebrew and it not going to be my last I just want to know why dose it taste like wood chips

Perhaps you mean wet cardboard? That would be oxidation or oxidized beer.

How did you transfer the beer to bottle, was there lots of splashing? Did you pour it into the bucket once it was finished? Either way it sounds like you aerated the beer once it was done and that's bad;(
