I am going to brew a beer with the hops I just picked, dried and vac sealed. How much clogging will I get from my ball valve and pick up tube using them without a bag? I have bags but wondered about just throwing them in.. whirpooling wont work as my tube is in the middle not a side pick up.

I usually don't have much luck just tossing them in without some sort of filter to keep them out of the pick up tube. I use extra large mesh bags so there is lots of room for all the hops to keep in contact with the wort, but still easy to keep them from clogging up the works.

I have a boatload of the 5 gallon paint strainer bags so I will put them in those. THANKS

you can either put some sort of mesh cover over your siphon tube or valve, or, just pour the cooled wort through a strainer into the primary fermenter. i get excellent results just straining the hops out into a primary. or you can use hop bags. this is a pretty easy problem to solve and all the solutions above have worked fine, for me at least
