I use them. no issues but shipping can seem high. still beats the crap out of $2-3 for an oz. Mason jars or ziplock bags to divide and into the freezer

Everytime I have used them it has worked out great. The only draw back is you HAVE to order a pound of each variety which is fine for your standard hops but not everything. Thanks to some recommendations on here I just placed on order with farmhouse supply and they have great prices and you only have to buys 4 oz at a time. plus they sell simcoe!!!

Just placed an order today and only thought to check the reviews here after.....but glad to hear everyone is happy with them so far. Very limited supply here on the island and at close to 3$ an ounce (if its available), ordering from hopsdirect seems like a killer deal. Since you can only get orders by the lb, any suggestions on "common" or frequently used hops which would be good to bulk order. Then just use local substitutes for when .5 of a specialty hop is called for. I ordered cascades, hallertau and northern brewer for now, any advice for a future order?

I use Hops direct and Freshop with no problems at all!!:D

Just ordered 8 lbs. Shipping weight is 13 lbs. I'm guessing I'm getting about 10 lbs of hops. Should arrive next Tuesday.

Shipping is OK. I like to buy several lbs to reduce the effect of shipping. If you buy several hops, the shipping is almost offset by the extra they give you in the order. 1 lb of pellets seems to be about 18 ozs, and 1 lb of leaf seems to be about 20 ozs.

I've bought from them a couple of times, and including shipping, hops cost me an average of $0.62 per ounce.

Buy hops you use a lot, or would like to use a lot. Buy a couple of neutral bittering hops too. Hops keep very well in the freezer; for up to a couple of years.

Who uses just 0.5 ozs of a hop in a beer?

I'll buy different hops just to try them. Bought a pound of Sorachi Ace, used about 4 ozs, but not sure what I want to use them for again; that was a poor purchase. Bought Mt Rainier, and used them in an APA with Centennial, and it is great; will use them up no problem.

I figure I'll make about 24 batches this year. I use about 5 ozs per batch (6.5 gallons) on average. On that basis I will use 7.5 lbs of hops this year. It will be another year before I buy any more hops.

just got 6lb. today in the mail :ban:

challenger, columbus, cascade, magnum, vanguard, and some delta

ohhh I can't wait to brew

Sorry to dig up this older thread but it looked like people had some good experiences with hopsdirect.

How good/bad is turnaround time for these guys? I ordered 4# of hops Monday and requested expedited shipping (priority). I'm out of town this coming weekend and was hoping to get these guys on ice ASAP. I wonder if I should expect to see them that soon.

You'll see them quick I believe mine came in 5-7 days using regular shipping.

Expect each bag of hops to weigh 2-3oz over a pound, hope this doesn't disappoint you!

Turnaround can be poor, with poor shipping information. That is the only downside to using them. I've had orders take nearly 2 weeks. Of course I don't think we could be farther apart from each other.

Otherwise, they are fantastic. I wouldn't buy hops any other place.

4-5 days to Big Island. Not too bad. I added a special description to ship priority (per their advice on the phone). I think 5 lbs of pellets or 2 1bs of whole can fit into 1 medium flat rate priority box. Shipping was 10$

Well, I live ~3 hours from the farm. Hopefully they can get them out the door fast. Because it should only be in transit for a day.

Thanks for the responses!

Wow! That is fast!

Well, they got to me in 3 days and each of my four 1lb bags weighed > 18oz.

I'll be using these guys again and again.

I ordered 4 pounds from them last year, shipping was $14, a little high. But they were still cheaper than by the oz at lhbs. I will use them again, mostly for commonly used hops in american and german beers.
