Some of you may recall a few weeks ago I dropped a carboy full of wine... at the advice of a few I ended up topping the carboy off with a similar wine to what I am making. Its been just about three weeks and I can't seem to tell what stage I'm at.

The wine is certainly clear but the color is very dark compared to any white wine I've seen. It almost has the color of a cider.

Is this color something that should clear too? Or is this going to be the color of my wine?

The color in the carboy isn't really the color of a glass (or bottle) of wine. If you take out a sample, and put it in a clear glass, that should be more representative of the color. A light struck or oxidized wine will turn brown-ish with a bit of time, but this wine sounds young.

It certainly is young. I will have to draw off a sample. And see

There is (to the naked eye) a color stratification at the very top, about 2 inches in the neck of the carboy look perfectly clear and the rest bellow has a brown tint to it... but alas I will drawn off a sample.

Thanks!

If it has a clear layer on top then yes, it will drop that brownish haze as it clears. The clear layer will slowly move further down untill it is all clear but the the sludge on the bottem.
Yooper is right. Wine looks different in the big jug then it does in a glass.
