I am making my second batch of Edworts apfelwein, I was thinking of adding one capsule of the white labs yeast nutrient and was wondering if this was necessary.
I would say its a good idea to use yeast nutrient, much like when making a starter. Even more so because the raw sugar doesn't have much proteins to break down to help feed the yeast so that they are healthy. I would use the recommendations for the recipe or around a tablespoon or two for five gallons of cider.
