Hard too see in picture but the first few pairs of leaves on my first year EKG has white stuff in all the grooves...won't wipe off.

What is this?

How much do you water them?

Too much... They were out in the rain for a couple weeks and we've had a wet, cold spring. I've since moved them to a dryer spot.

Looks like your plants are becoming deficient in nutrients due to the over watering. Probably K since it is mobile and travels from the lower leaves to the new ones.

That sounds plausible... Besides less water, what else should I do? Fertilizer?
I'm thinking about repotting this Afternoon to a bigger pot w better drainage.

You might have some damage from spider mites or aphids. Check for buggies

Checked that... No aphids or mites. I do seem to have an infection of fungus gnats... Planning to put a layer of sand on top today for that.

Well...it could be root rot. I would stop watering for a few weeks and add a little fertilizer. If the plant fails to get better, you'll need to dig up the root ball and look for fungus on the roots caused by over watering. Remove the roots that look bad and let the crown dry out for a few weeks before replanting.

i just repotted... mostly to put in a bigger pot with better drainage.. had a little trouble keeping the plant completely un-disturbed, however, I think the rootball stayed intact with its dirt, so hopefully this little guy wont take too much of a break before it settles into its new home.. so much nicer.

There was definitely wet soil in the bottom half of my pot (probably because the roots only go about 4-6 inches down)... suggesting the overwatering theory.

Im gonna let it go a couple of days before watering, and when i do, im going to try to add enough water only to wet the top few inches---

sound like a good plan?

I would wait longer than a few days before watering. Hops are a fairly tough plant. We tend to baby them as homebrewers, but they WILL grow without us. Did you happen to see any mold or fungus on the roots while you were repotting?

I tried to keep the dirt around the root ball intact, so I didn't look at the roots.

Just to clarify, you will not "see" root rot. In any healthy plant there are always dead roots, but with root rot there are just "more" dead roots. There is never any "mold" from root-rot causing pathogens.

Yeah, and the leaves dont look like the pictures of plants w root rot.

The white is only along the grooves

Powdery mildew ?????? check out OSU or WSU for pics I have posted them before

Thanks for the suggestion--checked out the pictures. I don't think it's mildew

It's not so much spots. The white is isolated to the veins, which seems to support the suggestion of nutrient issues.
