I brewed up a 3 gallon extract kit that uses 3 ounces of hops. Last brew I did the pickup tube plugged up half way into draining. This one I stirred with a spoon for a few minutes before draining. It may not be fancy with a pump or fittings. I still had fine hops go through but the majority stayed in the brew kettle and did not plug the pickup tube.

No need to be fancy if it works. IMO one less thing to clean is a win/win. I do 5 gallon batches and use my long thermometer to start the whirlpool. It works great. Whirlpool combined with a cold crash always gives me clear beer.

I use an auto siphon and suck everything out the kettle..It gets a little thick towards the end and slows down but it gets the job done. You dont need to leave the hop debris behind if you dont want to...no pumps

I use the strain when overtaking the wort from the brew kettle into the fermenter. The hop debris are not necessary for good bitterness and aroma. Checked.
