Ive had eyes on kegging equipment for a number of months and resisted. I also have a 15 year old fridge from when I started college that was hanging out in my basement. It had a freezer compartment and I’m only marginally capable of modifying electronics, so I was always hesitant to try and convert this. I finally did it and it was pretty easy. A couple of screws and I didn’t even have to bend the freezer compartment. In the future if I wanna squeeze a 2.5 gallon keg, I may try. For now, this will work

The tower is a DIY off of some pics I found online. Shoutout to @Chuggles for answering a few questions I had along the way. I opted for 1 tap and like that this can expand to two if I wish. The parts are possible to swap out with no real issue. I went two toned with some black iron and some stainless parts for a bit of contrast. I was worried the black fridge with all black iron wouldn’t stand out enough.

Other than some minor first time kegger mishaps, this all went pretty well. If you’re nervous about it, I’m happy to try and help answer questions. I was lucky that the coolant line was easy to handle and I knew where the cooling was coming from - I had no worries about putting a hole through the line. I thought for a few days what to do for the tap handle and then stumbled on an old Ommegang cork and put a hole in it. So far it works but hopefully it’ll hold up because now I kinda like the look.

One note: if you’re doing a single tap and building off of some blogs, it calls for a 90 degree street elbow and not a regular elbow. This caused me to have to get an extra coupling but it lets me keep the street elbow if I ever want to go to a two tap system. Based on the fridge, that will be hard to do.
