Hey guys,
I'll be brewing my first BIAB this weekend and am looking for guidance with which water source to use. When I was extract brewing I would use distilled water because the extracts already contained the needed minerals, but I'm not sure with the all grain. So should I be using tap water, spring water, purified water, distilled water.....???

Get ahold of a copy of your cities tap water report. Plug those numbers into the free spreadsheet called bru'n water. Pick the profile of water and it will help you meet the needs. You may need to cut your tap water with RO or distilled then add certain minerals to get where you want to be. When I plugin my tap water all I need to do is adjust the mineral additions to achieve the water profile I'm after.

Just do a google search for Bru'n water. Make sure you have a spreadsheet application installed.

For starters, if your tap water tastes good to drink, use it. You can change to something different later if you don't like the outcome. If you are on city water, use half a campden tablet per 5 gallons to remove the chlorine/chloramine before you brew with it.

If your tap water is offensive, use the kind of water you drink, such as spring water that you might buy. It will have the minerals that the yeast need.
